I'm amazed and intrigued by how efficient the mail service was in their day. Both homes and offices appear to have had two deliveries per day; and people could write one day and expect the letter to be delivered the next. Recently the US Postal Service issued a statement that it would no longer promise ANY first class next day deliveries.
Remember that Jim's last letter to Jennie had those "x x x x x x"s?? Jennie is playing coy. James signed his last letter frankly, "with love." Jennie is still equivocating somewhat. And what's the teasing about Jim and her sister?
Dear Jim,
Received your letter this
morning (Thursday) We did not
go to the post office last night
as Lawrence went to Ormstown
instead. I also got the films
this morning--tho't I told you
to send half a doz. only. Why have you disobeyed? I want to know.
Anyway when Saturday or Sunday
comes I will get some good ones of you and Flora----
-2-
Mother had a letter from Flossie
this morning and she had not
at the time her letter was written
made up her mind as to when
she was coming home but am
writing her now telling her to
come home Saturday night--
with you. I think it would
be as well for you to come
to St. Louis Station again, for
I really would hate to drive to
St. Timothee and get left,
as you did not seem quite
sure whether you could come.
--3--
I sincerely hope Mr. MeN goes
away over labor day and then I'll
have some sport with you--
Of course I understand you're
no joke. Even if you have
to work Labor day you can
surely come up for Sunday--
If Flossie does not come, we
will expect you just the
same so pls note.
Looks like a Big Night
tomorrow, all right, lots doing.
Had a postal from Florence Bromley
and after all our hoping, they
are not coming, so will have
--4--
lots of room for "the two of you"
I got home at 9:40 am Monday
morning, of course I did not
drive fast and it took me about
half an hour to unhitch Floss,
as Lawrence was not at home,
anyway it was 9:40 when I got
into the House--went to bed
& slept until 2:30 pm How's that?
It was just grand up here
Monday and Tuesday--It rained
a little yesterday but the sun
is shining again today. Say!
Is it cloudy in Montreal these
days, or is the sun still shining?
(comprenez?)
--5--
It is now 4:30 and we always
have supper around 5, so I must
get busy, and immediately after
mother and I are going to
the post office, (if you like
you can come too)
I am not certain of your
number but think you said
"#25" Hate to send it to the
office as Dunlop has such a
long tongue.Think I would get fat
if I were up here long as i
have on an average of 12 hours
sleep every night--of course
--6--
to-morrow night will get
none.
So you think I can't
milk-- Well wait and see.
Monday night I milked 2
cows--"Thats true" Tuesday
night I was not at home
milking time and last night
it was rather wet and
tonight you see I must
post this or you might cry
Don't forget to get off at
Cecile Jct. Saturday night---
I guess you might just as
well just buy your ticket
to St. timothee, as you will
be going back that way, but
if you go by (ast) Cecile Jct I'll
be sorry.
Don't work too hard but
suppose can leave that to you.
Byebye until Saturday
night.

Jennie
Sept. 1st 1910
P.S. I want to know what those
"marks" at the end of your letter mean--
Don't think you are putting us to
any trouble, for you are not, I
was going to write and ask if
you would come.
J.
