Three Letters on July 4, 2012

This is Jennie's response to the letter Jim wrote on July 2nd.
I recognize this handwriting.  It was essentially unchanged when I was a child and received letters from Grammy in the early 1960's.  I was just learning to read handwriting and often had to ask my mom for help deciphering it.  But I look at it now, and realize it is clear and steady.  I think she wrote just about every day to my mother, who had moved to the States with my dad early in the 1950's.

Notice the guarded references to Jim's health: all the concern about his missing a meal, and  "I hope you are taking it easy"
